FAQ

Do you know how PHIT you really are?  Forget the digital readouts of your NordicTrack and see how you stack up against the PHITathalon! Various tried-and-true components will come together in this ultimate field test of speed, strength, skill and strategy to test the seemingly well-balanced athlete.  Using age and gender-based divisions to determine the winners of each, the PHITathalon continues to set the bar in CHALLENGE racing!

When and what is a PHITathalon? This year’s 2nd annual PHITathalon will be held on July 30th with a 9:00a.m. start and will be more grueling, more demanding and more intense than last year.  Our 5 mile course will be constructed to contain obstacles and distances in perfect discord. (Yes that’s what we meant).  The power needed to perform at each obstacle will need to come from deep within each athlete in order to make it to the finish line.

How do I train for the PHITathalon?

First Day:  Start by running 5 miles (duh).  Go home.

Second Day:  Do the same thing with wet shoes.

Third Day:  Incorporate a hog farm, corn field and creek bed into your 5 mile run.  Feel the weight of the water and taste the mud in your teeth.

Fourth Day:  Practice your climbing and crawling skills at a nearby playground.

Call PHIT to schedule a personal consultation.

Is the event held regardless of weather?  Yes, the event will be held rain or shine, hot or cold. We look forward to the high temperatures and will keep you cool and hydrated.  Last year we experienced no injuries/heat exhaustion.  Rain will make the obstacles more challenging, and in the July heat, we know last year’s participants enjoyed the power washers!

What are the age divisions?  At the Inaugural PHITathalon, the age groups were 11-14, 15-19, 20-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59, 60-69 and 70+.  Each of these divisions was divided into male and female categories. Last year the top three finishers in each category received awards.  Partnering with the Columbus Running Company and given the fact that this year’s race will have a substantially larger field, these categories and divisions will be decided and announced soon.  Keep checking back here for details.

How do I register?  Pre-registration and packet pickup dates and locations will be announced as they become available.  Race Day registration will be held the day of the race from 7:00a.m. to 8:45a.m.  Stay up to date by friending us on your Facebook page.

What should I wear?  Good, solid running shoes.  There’s no way around it, you will get muddy, sandy and wet!  Wear clothes you don’t mind getting ruined.

What do I bring?

GUTS!

Clothing you don’t mind trashing once you get home.

Extra pair of shoes (there will be a voluntary shoe donation station at the finish)

Trash bag to sit on during your car sit home

*Come prepared to race in any type of weather and through any type of conditions!

I’m not in great shape.  Can I do this?  Finishing the PHITathalon is more about mental toughness than being in great physical condition.

Where can I get information about the obstacles?  As with anything greatly anticipated, the PHITathalon staff is keeping this race’s details completely under wraps!  What you see on race day is what you get!

Will there be water stations along the way?  Yes.  There will be volunteers with water on the course to help keep you hydrated.

Most races do (blank).  Why doesn’t the PHITathalon do (blank)?  The PHITathalon is not most races.  The PHITathalon does what it wants to do.

Where can we stay?  There are hotels within 5 miles of the race venue and we are working to bring you discounted rates for rooms.  Stay tuned here for more information!

Can I get a refund if I am unable to attend after registering?  We’re sorry but there are no refunds under any circumstances.  Please confirm your ability to be present and compete before registering.
